Just before the Easter holidays at Cromer Academy, Matilda Jr was entertaining crowds for three packed nights! Bringing some Broadway magic to the North Norfolk Coast, the musical was a smash hit, bringing delight and joy to our community.

“Matilda JR” is a musical written by Tim Minchin, adapted by Dennis Kelly and based on the novel by Roald Dahl. The story follows Matilda, a girl with a difficult family life who discovers her intelligence and special powers, along a path to saving her fellow children from a cruel environment at their school.

Nicola Renton, director of the production at Cromer Academy said:

“Our pupils have worked incredibly hard over the last few months in preparing for this show. It was fantastic to see such a large number of pupils getting involved this year and for some, this was their first experience of performing in a show. They truly excelled themselves and provided lasting memories. We are already considering options for our School Production 2025 and look forward to announcing it shortly!”

Performed by a cast of talented students, all the iconic characters from Matilda were represented with some thrilling performances from our pupils singing, dancing and acting.

Portraying the classic story of Matilda, there were catchy musical numbers, comedic moments and emotional points all leading to a compelling performance from the students at Cromer Academy.

It was wonderful to see the students engage with the story and perform to the same high standard night after night in our academy. Accompanied by professional lighting and sound, it gave our performers a taste of being on the West End in Cromer. The cast was full of new and familiar faces as more students have been getting involved in this fantastic opportunity to perform.

A huge thank you to all staff and students who have been involved in our production this year, we are so proud and grateful for the contributions from our community.
