February 16th 2024

Dear families,

The first part of the Spring term draws to a close on what has been another action packed half term. There has been much to celebrate, the winners of Battle of The Bands, our recent sporting achievements and publication of our pupils' poems.

We are thrilled to be running a Ski trip to Italy in 2025 and the incredible exclusive opportunities with Royal Cromer Golf Club and Cromer Lawn Tennis and Squash Club.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of our school and wish you all a restful half term.

Ski Trip – Italy 2025

We are delighted to launch Cromer Academy’s Ski Trip for Easter 2025. The trip gives pupil’s the chance to experience the thrills of skiing while providing an unforgettable opportunity to immerse themselves in another culture, whilst challenging themselves to be independent and resilient.

As the trip includes pupils who will be in Years 8, 9 and 10 next year (current Years 7-9), it is also a great bonding and collective experience. Other benefits of this trip include learning a new skill, building confidence, improving health and fitness, and learning the local language. In our experience the highlight of any trip is seeing pupils enjoy their skiing and achieving something they had never done before.

Ski Trip 2025 will be during the Easter break, travelling to Passo Tonale in the Italian Alps, departing on 4th April 2025 and returning on 11th April 2025.

We have had an incredible response to the trip and currently have a waiting list!

MFL Reading Challenge

This year, pupils are being encouraged to read more in French and Spanish through our MFL Reading Challenge. We have a variety of dual-language (French/English and Spanish/English) books to borrow from our school library to help pupils expand their vocabulary and explore aspects of French and Spanish outside the main curriculum. For each book or short story that pupils read, they can fill in a short book-report and get a golden ticket.

A prize of 100 merits is available for the person who has read the most books or short stories over the year!

Young Writer Anthology

Young Writers run regular open writing competitions on a variety of directed themes. Pupils from schools all over the country can enter, with selected pieces published in an anthology.

Three of our pupils had poems selected to appear in their 'This is Me – Everlasting Ink' anthology. The prompt was to write about anything that is important to them, and how they view life. We are very proud to see them in print!

Year 8 Christmas Markets trip to Bruges and St Omer

At the beginning of December, we had a very early start on our trip to France and Belgium. It was seasonably cold weather, with frosty views from the warmth of the coach once the sun had come up.

When we got to St Omer, we explored the town, following a town trail that took in the beautiful cathedral, the market and old streets.

We used our French to buy lunch in an authentic boulangerie.

We then travelled to our accommodation in Northern France, where we had a delicious meal and competed in a Christmas-themed quiz.

After another early start and a continental breakfast at our accommodation, we headed to Belgium and went to Bruges. We walked through the picturesque old city to the Christmas Market in the Grote Markt. We enjoyed some early Christmas shopping and some lunch before heading back to the coach and completing our journey home to Cromer. It was a great way to start the festive season and experience foreign travel.
